Accidential Damage Options for your iPhone

The iPhone is now one of the most critical things we carry around because it can be more expensive than a purse or everything in our wallets.  This little piece of eletronica is more fragile than we think and can not only scratch but can be dropped and shatter its glass into lines that are hard to see through.  When you purchase your new iPhone the best thing to do to stay on the safe side of big spending on another phone when this one breaks is buy a warranty or insurance plan for two years.

Apple Care – $69 a year.  The first warranty option that comes to mind for most people is the Apple Care program.  This is because most of you buy your Iphones in an Apple store or an AT&T store where there is really no other option available.  Why not step out of the crowded Apple store and go across the street or mall to a Best Buy store and get a better deal on your coverage.  Apple Care does not coverage accidental damages they only cover failures through normal use.   And normal use is basically things that are wrong with the phone not things that you did with the phone.   Apple Care is basically worthless if you ask me.  Apple cares about your money, not your iPhone if it is damaged.  Obviously they do not care about your wallet very much or they would help protect thugs from getting your iPhone or help you if there is accidential damage. We are humans, not robots.

Best Buy Geek Squad – $14.99/mo. If you purchase the phone in a Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile store you can pay for their Geek Squad Black Tie protection where it is $14.99 a month.  They charge 9.99 for most phones but the Iphone gets the extra charge (as usual).  This may be better than a repair company that is not as popular as all the best buy stores nationwide.  You can get this coverage for up to two years by calling 888-237-8289.

Square Trade (squaretrade.com) - $38/$48/$58 annually (8gb/16gb/32gb).  For just $96, get 2 years of coverage for up to $399 for the 16gb iPhone ($120 covers 32gb up to $499).  They take care of you if you have spills, accidental damage, or damage from normal use.  There is a $50 deductible when claiming on an accidentally damaged item (drops, spills). If your iPhone problem falls under the standard warranty terms (a mechanical or electrical failure), no deductible applies.  Up to 2 years of coverage just like the Geek Squad program.

You must purchase Square Trade within 30 days from purchase and with Best Buy Geek Squad Black Tie you must do so within 15 days.  If you wait too long you can always go with another company at insuremyiphone.com owned by SafeWare which allows you to purchase it at any time and make unlimited claims.

With Best Buy you can only have 2 repairs or 1 replacement and with Square trade you may only have one replacement.  If you feel you get in many situations where you could lose your phone, get it damaged beyond repair, or think you could be at risk for a stolen phone (which is 99% of everyone who carries one) you might want to consider more than damage protection and look into theft coverage.
